The Swine Flu Vaccine — Can You Trust It?

Rumors have been swirling around the internet about the safety and efficacy of the swine flu vaccine for months now. There are many reasons to doubt the safety of the swine flu vaccines; I've accumulated a wealth of information that the CDC and the pharmaceutical industry would rather not have you be aware of, all of which can be found right here.

This information isn't a collection of "internet rumors," the term the CDC likes to apply to any viewpoint that contradicts what they're saying. The sources are all either medical professionals, experts in the field of vaccine science, and legitimate news organizations.

Reasons for Concern
About the Swine Flu Vaccine

The swine flu vaccine has been put on the fast track for mass distribution. The United States government is going all-out on a vaccination program designed to inoculate 40 million or more of its citizens with the swine flu vaccine. The problem with mass immunizations of this type is that creating vaccines in a such a short period of time leaves no opportunity for thorough testing. Should you be concerned?

The 1976 swine flu vaccine disaster. Will history repeat itself? Something went wrong the last time there was a mass-vaccination for swine flu, back in 1976. The proposed "safety trials" for the H1N1 vaccine will not be concluded until June, 2010, long after billions of people around the world have been injected. The adjuvants that may be in many of the final vaccines, including squalene (see below), are not being tested in this trial, nor are people with numerous health conditions allowed in the trial.

All of this begs the question: How safe and effective will these vaccines be? The FDA announced that the swine flu vaccine will be accepted if it creates antibodies in 4 out of 10 recipients (40%), with at least 70 percent of those 4 achieving an antibody level "believed to provide benefit."

This means that an acceptable vaccine would provide “protection” for 28% of vaccine recipients (70% of the 40%), or less than 3 in 10 recipients. The requirement drops to 18% efficacy for those over 65 years of age.

Any Different From Other Flu Vaccines?

Squalene is suspected to be among the most deadly of immune adjuvants. Victims of Gulf War Syndrome (GWS) received anthrax vaccines which contained squalene, which was later suspected to be the cause of GWS.

In 2008, the federally-mandated Research Advisory Committee on Gulf War Veterans' Illnesses released a 452-page report indicating that roughly 1 out of every 4 of the 697,000 American veterans from the first Gulf War era are afflicted with the disorder. The British, who also got the vaccine, recorded the second highest number of victims. The French, who did not get the anthrax vaccine, reported the fewest problems. Will there be squalene in your flu vaccine? You won't know for sure what the final ingredients will be in your batch of the swine flu vaccine — the CDC and the vaccine manufacturers have been giving conflicting information when asked, and have resisted efforts by the media to get specific information. Their position is best summed up as "Trust us."

Just because the government is promoting swine flu vaccines is not a good reason to think that they must be safe — no one will really know until well after millions are already inoculated — and maybe not even then.

How Dangerous is the Swine Flu?

The U.S. government has decided that the H1N1 flu pandemic deserves to be labeled a "National Emergency." However, based on statistics from the southern hemisphere, where the flu season is over, they may have oversold the dangers. In fact, as of mid-November, the statistics indicate that this could go down in history as the mildest flu strain in the history of flu strains. Why all the panic?

Putting the swine flu statistics into perspective. As of November 14th, the United States has reported "nearly 4,000 deaths" from the H1N1 virus, but, as you will see, this number might just be a wild guess. The CDC is not spending much effort keeping track of exact numbers anymore.

I'm not trying to downplay the danger of H1N1, but every year in the USA about:
• 36,000 people die from flu-related causes
• 30,000 infants under 6 months of age die from all causes
• 40,000 people die from motor vehicle traffic accidents
• 120,000 people die from properly-prescribed prescription drugs.

Can You Believe What the CDC Is Saying
About the Swine Flu?

CBS 60 Minutes runs cover for the CDC and promotes swine flu vaccinations. For whatever reason, 60 Minutes, usually a very trustworthy source of independent investigative journalism, portrayed the swine flu epidemic using the worst fear-mongering possible, including using a victim who's been laying near-death in a hospital bed for weeks as a poster-child for the swine flu vaccine program.

They took all of the pronouncements from the CDC at face value, without any second-guessing or deeper investigation. A closer examination of the CDC's reporting of the swine flu pandemic revealed statistics that refuted those being promoted by the CDC.

Swine flu spread may be greatly exaggerated. A three-month-long investigation, also done by CBS News, revealed that H1N1 flu cases are not as widespread as feared — about 90% of the cases that have been reported have not actually been swine flu at all. CDC Misses the Boat on Swine Flu Deaths

According to the CDC’s statistics as of mid-October 2009, the H1N1 flu has killed 36 children in U.S. Of those, almost two-thirds had either epilepsy, cerebral palsy, or some other neurodevelopmental condition like mental retardation.

What do all of these conditions have in common? They are all associated with childhood vitamin D deficiency, according to the founder of the Vitamin D Council, Dr. John Cannell. Vitamin D deficiencies could also have made these children far more susceptible to complications from the swine flu.

Unfortunately, Dr. Cannell has been unable to get anyone in authority at the CDC to investigate the potential use of vitamin D in preventing a flu epidemic.

Wintertime deficiencies of vitamin D, due to lack of strong sunlight, have been implicated in the seasonal increase in colds and flu, and previous studies have suggested an association between low blood levels of vitamin D and a higher risk of respiratory infections.

Is vitamin D the answer to preventing swine flu? Numerous studies indicate that Vitamin D is perhaps the single most powerful nutrient for preventing influenza. Recent studies also show that well over half of the population has insufficient or deficient levels of vitamin D in their blood. Yet no one in official circles is promoting the supplementation of vitamin D immediately, even in the face of a potentially devastating global pandemic. Makes you wonder, doesn't it?

Conclusion: Is the information we're getting from the CDC reliable? If you read through all the information above, it's apparent that the CDC is not being straight with the public. This may be because they've got too many conflicts of interest with the pharmaceutical industry to be honest. In fact, over 50% of the members of the vaccine approval committee at the CDC (and the FDA) are on the pharmaceutical industry payroll!

The vaccine manufacturers have huge financial interests in promoting the swine flu vaccines. The CDC is essentially acting as a public-relations vehicle for them to sell the swine flu vaccines, whether they realize it or not.

Are Swine Flu Vaccines the Answer?

There's been much controversy about the wisdom of getting swine flu vaccines. I've found several excellent sources for the latest news and information for you.

The National Vaccine Information Center is an organization promoting the study and improvement of vaccine safety. They are not anti-vaccine, but are committed to more research into vaccine science. Questions Persist About Flu Vaccines

Long-term effects of frequent vaccinations are unknown. No vaccine is without side effects, including injury and death. Double-blind studies have never been done on long-term effects or safety of vaccines — or even if they actually work!

Are vaccine studies "rubbish?" What about the evidence that supports vaccine effectiveness? The November issue of the Atlantic magazine contains an excellent article examining the studies that are being used by the CDC to reinforce the effectiveness of flu vaccines.

Tom Jefferson, from the Cochrane Collaboration, one of the world's best-informed researchers on the flu vaccine, is interviewed for the story. He leads a team of researchers who have examined hundreds of vaccine studies. According to Jefferson,

The current status of vaccine studies. The gist of the argument at this point is that, at first, government officials declare that vaccines are effective. When faced with contrary evidence, proponents acknowledge that the science is not as clear as they would like. Then, in response to calls for placebo-controlled trials, which would provide clear evidence one way or the other, the proponents say such studies would deprive patients of vaccines and drugs that have already been deemed effective.

Something else to consider: will over-vaccination lead to a population with a compromised immune health? How your body strengthens its immunity is by being exposed to flu viruses — vaccines circumvent this, and do nothing to improve your resistance against future outbreaks. The question is... will the use of vaccines lead to a healthier population in the long run? This is an assumption that is not supported by any existing science.

• A bottle of Prozac, Claritin, Zanax and other top-selling prescription drugs that sells for hundreds of dollars eachcosts the industry as little as 12 cents to manufacture.
