Meet the Webmaster
This month, you get to meet the webmaster at antioxidants-for-health-and-longevity.com! I've been putting off doing an "about me" page for awhile, but it seems that visitors to my website are really interested in who's behind it, so now I've got one up.
You can check it out here: About Me
More interesting might be the story of how I came to create my website. I imagine that some of you harbor a desire to own your own website or blog, but may be discouraged by the fact that it seems to require a certain amount of technical expertise to start with. If that's you, you'll be doubly interested in reading my account.
You see, I had no website building experience as recently as a year ago, and you can see what I've created in that short amount of time, out of nothing. Read my full account and discover how you, too, can have a website based on your hobby or passion!

Food Myth of the Month:
You should avoid foods containing cholesterol to lower your cholesterol levels.
Truth: Your body manufactures more cholesterol on a daily basis than you could ever possibly eat — and the less cholesterol you eat, the more your liver produces.
Truth: Trying to lower your cholesterol numbers is futile. The link between a low cholesterol diet and better cardiovascular health has never been proven by any scientific study. The cholesterol theory of heart disease came to be accepted as factual mostly because of the mass marketing campaign designed by the pharmaceutical industry to sell lucrative cholesterol-lowering drugs.
Truth: If You Asked Your Body, Cholesterol Might Just as Well Be a Superhero!
span> Here are just some of the jobs that cholesterol does in your body:
- cholesterol makes and repairs cell membranes and the sheaths that cover your nerves
- cholesterol metabolizes vitamin D and produces many hormones that regulate your body
- cholesterol promotes a healthy nervous system
- cholesterol is essential for brain neurotransmitters that regulate brain function
- cholesterol is needed for proper digestion
As you can see, cholesterol is not a villain, but an critical element for your good health.
Truth: There is No Correlation Between High Cholesterol and Heart Disease.

New Senate Bill Seeks to Ban
Consumer Access to Dietary Supplements
Sometimes, I wonder what country I'm living in — the land of the free, or what??? A bill has been introduced to the Senate by John McCain that would restrict your access to natural health products and nutritional supplements. This bill seeks to give the FDA arbitrary control over what supplements you are allowed to have.
What that could mean to you, in practical terms, is this: Say you want to treat a cold or flu with megadoses of vitamin D or some other supplement. You go to your regular source and find out that you can't get those supplements in the doses you need anymore — due to "safety" legislation. You might have to buy a dosage that requires you to swallow 20 times the number of pills in order to get the amount you want!
This bill supposedly originates from the controversy surrounding the use of steroids by Major League Baseball players. Since some unethical companies illegally sold steroid drugs as “dietary supplements,” certain members of the Senate appear to have been deceived into believing that the FDA needs to be given additional power to ban dietary supplements across the board.
Pharmaceutical companies are obviously behind this latest effort to legislatively force more Americans towards prescription drugs and away from natural ways of preventing degenerative disease; their goal is to eliminate their competition.
Don't let Congress take away your access to nutritional products and supplements. It takes less than one minute to voice your opinion. Do it NOW!

Stop GMO Contamination!
Don't Let the USDA Approve
Monsanto's RoundUp-Ready Alfalfa!
More legislative nightmares for anyone who cares about access to organic produce. Obama's USDA Secretary, Tom Vilsack, is trying to get the court-ordered ban on Roundup-Ready alfalfa lifted by issuing a new draft environmental impact statement. This will set the stage for Obama Administration approval of Roundup-Ready alfalfa.
Alfalfa is the fourth most widely grown crop in the U.S. and a key source of feed for dairy animals. Alfalfa plants are open-pollinated by bees, which will spread the foreign DNA to other alfalfa crops. GMO-contamination of both conventional and organic alfalfa is inevitable if the Obama Administration successfully commercializes Monsanto's GM alfalfa.
Don't believe Monsanto's promotion of genetically-modified crops. Genetically-modified organisms (GMOs), aren't meant to feed the world or be resilient when there are droughts and floods - they're designed to sell pesticides, especially Monsanto's weed killer RoundUp, which the "Roundup Ready" crops, corn, cotton, soy, canola, and now sugar beets and alfalfa, are genetically engineered to withstand.
Don't let the Obama administration take away our right to GMO-free food. Please send USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack a letter by clicking on the link below. It takes less than one minute to voice your opposition. But do it NOW! The Obama administration is accepting public comments only through March 3, 2010.
